Urban Biking: Nebraska Avenue, Tampa FL

Nebraska Avenue is one of the main roads I bike on from home to get to work. I ride it for about 50% of my total trip but in that little stretch of time I get a whole lot of entertainment; everything from yelling passengers to random redneck pick-up honks, not to mention the regular sidewalk characters... it's like Universal Studios theme park for free.
I get on Nebraska starting from east Fowler, technically still called North Nebraska although it gets very "south" from the get go. Nebraska is inherently a two lane road but the width varies from normal to extremely narrow and dangerous. From Busch to Hillsborough, Nebraska might as well be a one lane, the lanes are barely wide enough for small cars. So the danger comes from motorist not being able to safely pass a bicycle rider.
I understand bike lanes can't exist on every road but at least regular lanes should be wide enough for cars passing a biker do so at a safe distance. Florida law dictates that the motorist, when passing a bicycle, must be at least 3 feet away at all times. That's impossible in that section of Nebraska.
So I find myself getting up on the (destroyed) sidewalks for part of the ride down Nebraska. Occasionally looking back for an open space in traffic to get back on the road. Suffice to stay that when I get off Nebraska, there's a great feeling of relief.

"Suffice to stay that when I
